Description

We are a NPO registered Homeless Shelter, based in Simon’s Town, Cape Town and founded in 1996. Happy Valley Home started in 1991 originally as a soup kitchen run from the Simon’s Town Catholic Church.

In 1996, it became clear that something more was needed to assist Simon’s Town’s poor, Mr. Duraan, previous Magistrate of Simon’s Town , negotiated with the Navy to use the old arsenal buildings and Happy Valley Home was formerly established.]

Happy Valley Home caters for 65 residents on a 6 month basis. With 25 women & 40 men all over the age of 18, who reside in separated dorms.
Each Resident is given 3 meals a day & also gets access to the clothing “store” room if they wish to get warmer clothing from donations given.

Happy Valley strives to get the homeless off the streets & into a warm, safe environment. We also provide the opportunity for each resident to get their legal documents in order, like ID documents to obtain employment.

Our staff also facilitate in connecting the residents with their families and back into society once again.
Because Happy Valley is only allowed to house a maximum of 75 residents at one time, the winter Readiness Programme allows for an extra 10 homeless people to stay as non permanent residents from June to the end of August,

Unfortunately We often to refer homeless intakes to other shelters (with transport to said shelter)

For a small fee of R5, any homeless person is able to choose a FULL outfit for themselves from head to toe. We often feed those who are not residents as well, if we get enough food donations for that month.

If we recieve any extra donations of food we will share and donate the excess to a variety of organisations locally who also depend of community donations.

With increasing homelessness and limited State funds, Happy Valley relies on the generosity of others and fundraising to meet the demands of the ongoing running costs and homelessness issues,

We are alwys trying to find ways of improving our already good infrastructure, which is a struggle to maintain.

Currently Happy Valley is in the process repair and renovations to some of the infrastructure and facilities. This will be done in phases as to not hinder the daily functioning of the shelter, & to pay attention to each phase specifically for its maximum potential & outcome.
